Marissa and Mouse
Hi, I am Marissa Wolfe. I am seventeen years old and I have been riding for twelve years. I started riding at the young age of five and it quickly became obvious to my parents that horses were going to be a huge obsession with me. I have loved and learned something from each horse I have owned. Misty, my first pony was the love of my life. Shasta had an underlying nasty streak and taught me to be a very defensive rider. Tiny was 12.3 hh and the first pony I evented. He was fabulous and always cleaned up at every show. Sage came to me very nervous and untrusting and it took a long hard year of schooling before a bond was made and we began working as a team. Sage and I worked our way up the rankings and the levels to be named BC Pre-Training Champions in 2004.
One day we got a call about a horse that we must come and see. We weren’t looking for a new horse at the time, but we quickly realized he was something special. He was a big, beautiful 17.1hh Thoroughbred Bay gelding and by far the largest horse I had ever seen in my life. With little hesitation we bought the monster. I compete him under the name “The Maestro” but around the barn everyone calls him “Mouse”. At the same time my coach realized that Mouse and I were capable of growing beyond her teaching and encouraged us to join Nikki Ayers and Harmony Farms. I have owned Mouse and been with Nikki for three years now and we have accomplished a lot. This past year Mouse and I competed in our first CIC* placing 7th and a few weeks later competed in a second CIC* and placed 4th! My plans for 2008 are to compete at the North American Young Rider Championships and continue to move up competitively in hopes of finishing the season at Intermediate level. In the future I dream of competing for the Canadian Team at the Olympic or Pan Am level.
